Are you a fan of the home shows on the home networks on TV? I admit that I absolutely love to watch all those home improvement shows. From This Old House to Joanna Gaines to House Hunters, I love them all. My favorites are the older PBS one’s where they show improvements like new HVAC systems and fireplace inserts and brand new ductwork. But I like the one where they just change design elements, too. With one exception. Ceiling fans. There was a period of about ten years where every single interior designer came into the house and removed all the ceiling fans! They all said the same thing: ceiling fans are ugly! Well, let me tell you, I live in the southeast, and if I won a redesign of my house by one of those designers, they would have to remove my ceiling fans over my dead body. Ceiling fans may not be the most beautiful part of a house, but they serve a purpose. They provide comfort and save money! Ceiling fans help your a/c work less. If you have a ceiling fan blowing on you, you are going to feel cooler, therefore you can set your thermostat higher and still feel cool. Ceiling fans can lower your cooling costs. When you are able to remain comfortable and set the thermostat on a higher temperature, your a/c will not need to kick in as often, so you will save money on the cooling portion of your utility bill. I don’t really think ceiling fans are ugly, but even if I did, they provide value and I will never want my a/c to run all the time with no relief from the ceiling fans.
