Our old air conditioning couldn’t go to the junkyard

When our old air conditioning system died on us last summer, my son had a really hard time with it for some reason. He’s a very sensitive kind of kid, and he always gets really attached to things that we have had for a long time. I don’t know why; I guess that’s just the way that he is. Anyway, whenever our old air conditioning system stopped working the last time, we knew that it was time for us to finally get a new one. We had been getting A/C repairs done on that one for about five years, and we knew that the time had finally come to get rid of it at last. It wasn’t really that big of a deal, since we had been saving up for a new A/C unit for a while. I wasn’t upset about the fact that we were going to have to spend quite a bit of money for a new A/C. As a matter of fact, I was pretty excited that we were going to be getting a new high efficiency air conditioning system for the house. So I guess it surprised me when I went outside and saw my son sitting by the curb next to the old broken A/C unit. He had his arm around it and he looked like he was getting ready to cry! When I asked him what in the world was wrong with him, he said that he felt so sorry for the old air conditioner that he couldn’t stand it. He said that he wanted to give it a proper burial instead of sending it away to the dump with all of the trash. After all, he said, the A/C has kept us nice and cool and comfortable for years. He thought that we should be respectful of it.
