When I was a young kid I watched my parents call for HVAC service and I was curious about how our HVAC system works.
- I would watch the HVAC service person do their job and it seemed very interesting to me how they would clean out everything and take apart the system and oil it.
They would even go to work on the condenser unit that’s located outside of the house. All of those fans, belts, and moving parts were so neat. I knew better than to mess with the HVAC unit myself but I loved watching them work There was this one time where we had a refrigerant leak and the service woman explained what was going on. She said that refrigerant is dangerous to handle if you don’t know what you’re doing. There’s even certifications for handling some of the refrigerant. It all seems so important to me. I mean, if you don’t have a heater you could freeze to death in certain parts of the country, in other parts of the country you can die of heat exhaustion if you don’t have air conditioning. I guess it was no surprise to my parents when I ended up going to school to become an HVAC repairman myself. It was a lot of work but I managed to do it and get my certification. Finally, I got my first job in HVAC as well and I’m happy when I see the excitement on kids’ faces when they watch me work. Who knows which of them will be the future HVAC technicians?
