I bought an old house that had a surprisingly new HVAC system installed.
I wanted to do all the work inside the house before I had the ductwork cleaned. The owner told me they hadn’t cleaned the ductwork, even when they had the new HVAC system installed. The HVAC company tried to talk them into ductwork cleaning, but he was adamant. He said he was having new heating and air conditioning installed for the buyer, but he could do his own cleaning. He thought we were robbing him by getting the house at such a cheap price. In reality, we paid him exactly what he requested, and we still had to put that much money into making the house livable. Luckily, we were able to clean the house up enough to be able to move into one room while the other seven were being gutted and redone. Even the bathrooms had to be gutted and new fixtures installed. It took us nearly six months to have the contractors get the bathrooms completed and the other rooms able to be used. I couldn’t believe the difference the contractor had made in six short months. Now, we only had a few more things to do in the room we had been living in. The HVAC contractor told us it was time to clean the ductwork. After the air vents were cleaned and the ductwork was cleaned and sanitized, we installed our new air vent covers. We loved our new house, and it cost less than we had expected. I hope the owner never finds out how cheaply we were able to fix up the house.
