I knew then that the impact from the pandemic was going to be felt much more sharply than just as a health crisis.
As we all hunkered down in the HVAC security of our home in that initial month. I sort of knew that this was going to be the way it was for a while. Soon, the kids were learning from home in the air conditioning and I was doing the same with my job. While I had to leave the zone controlled HVAC of the office, I decided then that zone control might be a saving grace. I called the HVAC company and talked with an HVAC professional about converting our existing HVAC equipment over to zone controlled HVAC. The price was right and so we went for it. Since we were going to be staying inside the air conditioning for the foreseeable future, we might as well make it as comfortable as possible. Does it make up for all the family nights out? Well, no it doesn’t. But it sure stopped a big argument fuse from being lit on a daily basis. My family has very differing ideas about what thermostat setting is comfortable. Having 6 zone control, independent thermostat throughout the house made that family situation moot. Over the past year plus, we have spent an inordinate amount of time at home. And the zone controlled HVAC has been an absolute dream for us. It was actually one of the better ideas I’ve come up with in a very long time.
