I try not to discount someone even if they’re newly trained. For years I got discounted haircuts at the cosmetology school in town and I was never disappointed with the results. Back when I taught science in high school, there were a number of kids there that won engineering competitions as first-time entries. It’s easy to underestimate the determination and energy in youth. You might assume that an older doctor is always going to be preferable to a new one because of her years of experience. But sometimes a student fresh out of their post-medical school residency can provide insight that is otherwise missed by an old person in their profession. Whether the student has been studying new advancements or technology or simply works harder, it doesn’t matter. For instance, my current HVAC technician is fresh out of school and is still one of the most skilled and knowledgeable tradesmen I have ever met in my life. That’s still true when I compare him to electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, and landscapers as well. He helped me find this new type of UV-C light air purification system that can be affixed inside most split style central heating and cooling systems. Now the air in my house is cleaner and I have experienced fewer allergy symptoms throughout the year. Sometimes it pays to work with someone younger and less experienced if they work harder or stay better up-to-date on new technology. This might not be applicable for all job positions, but it makes sense with an industry like indoor climate control where the technology is evolving on a daily basis.
