Mark it on the calendar. The owner is retiring.

When I walked into work, there were flyers inside most people’s locker.

It had a large HUSH at the top of the page. It said to mark the date on the calendar. The owner is retiring. The dispatcher was the secretary to the Heating & Air Conditioning dealer owner, & he was planning a celebration for the owner. I was gleeful for him, however I was also distraught about who was going to take over. His child was a jerk & would ruin the dealer. I wondered if he was going to offer the dealer to a single of the Heating & Air Conditioning techs. I knew I wouldn’t take the position, however I also knew there were some of the other Heating & Air Conditioning techs who would want it. The other worry was if he would sell the dealer to another Heating & Air Conditioning dealer owner, or just close it up; You would guess if that were an option, he would have already said something. I knew every one of us were going to need to wait until the retirement celebration for him to announce what was going to happen. When the boss asked me into the office, I thought nothing of his retirement. Normally, if he called me in, it was because he had another trainee, & he wanted me to track their apprenticeship. I walked in, expecting to see a new Heating & Air Conditioning recruit. I saw his child resting in the other chair, & he roughly introduced us. He said his child had been working for another Heating & Air Conditioning dealer & he was considering putting his in as the new dealer owner. He asked if I would be interested in being co-owner & working with her? I had no answer, because this wasn’t a twist I had expected.
