It was just time for a new thermostat

My wife and I were experiencing some trouble with the HVAC compartment.

We had the thermostat set for 72 degrees, but it felt like it was 75 in the house.

Sometimes it seemed like the HVAC component took a long time to shut off or come on. I knew our equipment was old, so I thought it was a good idea to call a contractor to service the equipment. I thought a tune-up might help it work better. The HVAC technician checked the thermostat first and it’s a good thing that he did. The thermostat was our entire problem. It was old and it needed to be replaced. The HVAC technician had a couple of different thermostats on the truck, so he brought a couple different models into the house. He carefully explained the different types of thermostats. The guy had a smart thermostat with a Wi-Fi connection that sounded more complicated than stereo instructions. My wife and I chose a new basic thermostat with programmable options and a touch screen. The guy installed the machine and briefly explained how to set up a few features. The HVAC technician still performed a full service tune up on the heating and cooling equipment, but he told us that the thermostat was the reason we were having problems with temperature fluctuations. I thought we might be in trouble. I thought we would hear bad news for sure. I’m glad we didn’t have to replace the whole HVAC unit. It’s only a few months away from our ten year anniversary and I didn’t want to spend all of our vacation money on heating and cooling equipment.
